5D4N Sabah Adventure Hunt : Danum Valley - Bilit - Kinabatangan River - Ox Bow Lake - Sandakan

Day 1 : ARRIVAL LAHAD DATU / DANUM VALLEY

AM Arrive at Lahad Datu Airport, meet and transfer to Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) Office for registration, after which journey (2 & half hours) by earth road to Danum Valley.  Enroute, learn about the reforestation and forest research work carried out in the Danum Valley Forest Concession.  This is the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah, covering 43800 hectares.  Along the way, observe the giant dipterocarp trees, prolific creepers and dense undergrowth.  Quite often, deer, wild boar or elephants cross the road and hornbills and eagles hunt for prey.  Upon arrival in Borneo Rainforest Lodge, take an orientation tour and an easy walk along forest edge and river.  After dinner, night drive for nocturnal wildlife or slide program.  Overnight in BRL. Day 2 : DANUM VALLEY

Optional dawn birdwatching. After breakfast, trek to the viewpoint, Coffin Trail and Jacuzzi Pool. Afternoon walk to the canopy walkway for more nature observation. Possible sightings are maroon langur, orangutan, hornbill, eagle and hawk, and many others. After dinner, night drive for nocturnal wildlife or slide program. Overnight in BRL. Day 3 : DANUM VALLEY / KINABATANGAN RIVER

Check out and depart Borneo Rainforest Lodge, retrace the journey (2 & half hours) back to the highway, head for Sandakan - Bilit.  Upon arrival, take a leisurely boat cruise on the Kinabatangan River, into the wetlands and through riverine forests in search of wildlife.  Possible wildlife sightings include mammals such as the endemic proboscis monkey, macaque, silver langur, reptiles like the monitor lizard, crocodile, mangrove snake, and birds like the kingfisher, heron, brahminy kite and hornbill.  After dinner, take a night walk to try to spot nocturnal wildlife.  Overnight at Bilit Adventure Lodge. Day 4 : OX BOW LAKE / KINABATANGAN RIVER

At dawn, take an easy trek to the oxbow lake that attracts wildlife to the saltlicks to drink.  Return to the lodge for breakfast.  Take the option to go fishing for the estuarine blue prawns and other fresh water fish.  In the afternoon, boat cruise along one of the tributaries in search of more wildlife.  After dinner, free at leisure. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 5 : KINABATANGAN / MESILAU NATURE RESORT

After breakfast, retrace the journey back to Sandakan town.  Enroute visit War Memorial Park before heading to Sandakan Airport for flight departure.  (Breakfast)
