Tarap is a jungle fruit which can be only found in the East Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Tarap is the fruit that we love!

"Botanically it is known as Artocarpus Odoratissimus and belongs to the Moraceae plant family like it is related cousins to the Jackfruit also known as Nangka, Chempadak abd Breadfruit." (Quoted from http://allthingsborneo.blogspot.com)

When the seasons starts, tarap can be easily found on trunks by the roadsides, selling at the price of RM2 to RM5 depending on the sizes.

It is very easy to open a Tarap using bare hands! After it has is ripe, Tarap cannot be kept longer than a week. Therefore, it is advisable to finish the whole fruit once it is opened.

It is almost same as the size of a football but only covered with spiny protrubences. The white flesh is the yummy part. Tarap have a very strong fragrance like a sharp pungent aroma and the flesh is sweet! Bare in mind, there are seeds attached to a centre core inside the fruit. Just spit it out while you eat.

The seeds, you can choose to throw it away, plant it, or even bake it! By just using an oven and it will be as crunchy as a peanut!
